Wigan Warriors Academy full-back Sam Dickenson has backed the unbeaten side to make a strong push in Thursday night's Top Four play-off opener. The Welsh international, who joined the club at Academy level after two seasons as a Warrington Wolves Scholar, will face his former side in a bid to reach the Academy League Grand Final.
Dickenson has been a standout performer this season, scoring 14 tries in eight Academy League matches. He credited the forwards for creating space in attack.
"I've enjoyed this season. I've had some good performances, but it's the players around you that contribute to that," Dickenson said. "Our forwards have been setting the base with their contact which has made my job easier. It's just a good team to play in, a great group of lads, and we thrive off that."
Staying Humble Despite Success
Warriors ended Warrington's two-year unbeaten run when the sides last met, but Dickenson warned against complacency as the team prepares for the crunch fixture.
"The coaches have instilled in us that teams will be coming after us so we must stay humble whilst sticking to what we've been doing well," he said. "There's still improvements in our game, and it's important we stick to what we've been doing well as a team and individually so we can get the performance we're looking for."
Home Advantage and Play-Off Nerves
Dickenson acknowledged the added pressure of play-off rugby but said the team are eager to perform in front of home fans and the First Team squad.
"There's there nerves that will always be there no matter the level, but we're all excited to play," he said. "When you get fans down here you can definitely feel the difference as it gives you that extra few percent. You want to play well in front of your family, but also the First Team players and coaches who come down to watch."
