Reggie Walsh has completed a season-long loan move to Wigan Athletic from Chelsea. The 17-year-old midfielder will play at the Brick Community Stadium as he looks to gain regular experience in men's football.
Walsh has progressed through Chelsea's youth system and has already trained and travelled with the club's Premier League first-team squad. He now moves to Wigan to take those lessons into senior competitive football.
Walsh on His Move
Speaking to Latics TV after joining the club, Walsh said: "First of all, it's a privilege to be here. It's a massive club with a lot of history, so I can't wait to get started. It's the perfect stepping stone I need in my career."
The midfielder added: "Being 17, I need to play men's football, and I believe this is the perfect environment for me to be in and build my career to get to where I want to be."
Background
Walsh described his path to Wigan as one with "a lot of ups and downs" but said his experience training with Chelsea's first team had prepared him well. "Every experience brings something new and something that you have to learn," he said. "When you're with the first team, you're playing in high-stakes and high-level games, and going away with the first team at Chelsea to get minutes under my belt and build up to where I want to be for this start was really good."
