Wigan Warriors Women retained the League Leaders' Shield with a victory over Leeds Rhinos at Edge Hall Road Community Stadium, securing their place in the Betfred Women's Super League Grand Final.
Denis Betts' side scored five tries through Mary Coleman (two), Molly Jones, Lucie Sams and Eva Hunter. The win extends their winning run and confirms back-to-back League Leaders' Shields.
First Half
The match opened with a minute's silence to commemorate Sir Billy Boston. Wigan struck early when Anna Davies made a deep run, allowing the Warriors line to push high. Isabel Rowe's smart pass behind found Mary Coleman, who scored after five minutes.
Four minutes later, Molly Jones extended the lead after a lightning attack allowed her to receive the pass and round her marker. A strong defensive effort by Eva Hunter and Ellise Derbyshire held Leeds at bay during their response.
Lucie Sams scored the third try after a knock-on gave Warriors space to overwhelm the visiting line. Mary Coleman added her second try as another Wigan drive saw her slip past the Leeds defence before half-time.
Leeds responded through Lois Naidole, who capitalised on a defensive mistake to score. Naidole added a second try on the wing to pull the gap back to 20-10 at the interval.
Second Half
Eva Hunter scored within minutes of the restart, feinting a pass to create a route to the try line and bring the score to 26-10.
Leeds quickly responded as Liv Whitehead received the pass on the wing from a shifting play to score in the corner. Shannon Brown slipped inside from a scrum near the Warriors line to add a fourth try for the Rhinos, pulling the score within six points.
Wigan maintained their lead through the visitors' unrelenting pressure to secure the win. The Grand Final will be played at The Brick Community Stadium.
