Wigan Athletic suffered a 1-0 defeat away at AFC Wimbledon in Sky Bet League One on Sunday, with a late goal from Miles Hippolyte settling the match.
Vice-captain Jensen Weir reflected on the loss after the full-time whistle, describing the mood in the dressing room as gutted and frustrated despite the team creating multiple opportunities to take the lead during the game.
Taking Positives from Midfield Play
Weir acknowledged the disappointment of the result but highlighted positive elements in Wigan's build-up play in midfield. He suggested that if the team continues to create chances and perform the right things tactically, goals and results will eventually follow.
"At the end of the day, it's a results-based business, and we need to start putting the ball in the back of the net," Weir told Latics TV. "But I think if we were sat here and we weren't creating nice stuff and we wouldn't get any points, then we'd feel a little bit more worried."
Frustration Over Finishing
The vice-captain stressed that Wigan are generating the chances needed but failing to convert them. He called for the team to examine how they are approaching their attempts and suggested that a breakthrough goal would help unlock further success.
"You can tell we're getting chances, but we're not finishing them, so I think it's having a look at how we've done things," Weir said. "I think once we've got that first one, then we'll get the second one, then the third one."
