Anthony Cole-Johnson has informed Wigan Athletic that he is stepping aside from his position as Chief Executive Officer following a change in his personal circumstances. Cole-Johnson, who joined the club in August, will serve his notice period over the next month.

During his remaining time at the club, Cole-Johnson will continue working with the senior leadership team to build the foundations for Wigan Athletic's longer-term plans and ensure a smooth handover.

Work Underway on Off-Pitch Operations

Since joining in August, Cole-Johnson has started work on building a top-six standard off the pitch to support the club's longer-term plans to be commercially sustainable and ambitious on the pitch. That work will continue during his notice period and will remain in place for the club to build on after his departure.

Cole-Johnson's Message

Cole-Johnson said: "I have really enjoyed my time at the Club and have been hugely impressed by the people working across Wigan Athletic and the wider Group. In a relatively short space of time, I have come to understand what makes this Club so special, and I have made friendships with some amazing people across the organisation."

He thanked the board members — Brenda, Ben and Lucas — for their support and understanding, and highlighted their commitment to the club and the town.

"My focus over the coming weeks will be on continuing to work with the senior leadership team to develop the strategy and structures we have started to put in place, ensuring the Club has a clear direction that can continue well beyond my time here," Cole-Johnson added.

What Happens Next

Wigan Athletic has begun the process of appointing Cole-Johnson's successor. Cole-Johnson will be attending tomorrow's Fans' Forum with Gary Caldwell and Lucas Danson.
