Wigan Warriors secured a commanding 54-6 victory over St Helens in the opening match of the new Super Four format in the Betfred Women's Super League.
The defending champions scored nine tries at the BrewDog Stadium to extend their unbeaten record in 2026. Ellise Derbyshire and Eva Hunter each scored twice, with further tries from Anna Davies, Molly Jones, Remi Wilton, Jenna Foubister and Mary Coleman. Izzy Rowe added four goals.
St Helens' only try came from Luci McColm on the stroke of half-time, with goals from Gaskin.
Dominant First Half
Wigan's start was devastating. Derbyshire scored after a high kick into the sun on the last tackle bounced invitingly after St Helens full-back Liv Leach spilled the ball. Hunter then added a second try, running from inside her own half with a display of pace and power.
Davies went over in the corner after a kick from Rowe, and by the 15th minute the contest was effectively decided. Leach had to be carried off the field with an injury.
Second Half Dominance
St Helens gained some possession before half-time but could not prevent Wigan's onslaught after the break. Molly Jones scored on her first appearance of the season following a knee injury, and the champions added three more tries in the final quarter through Wilton, Foubister and Coleman.
This was Wigan's fifth successive win over Saints in the past 12 months, following a 54-6 Challenge Cup final victory at Wembley.
Super Four Format
The Super Four format was introduced for the 2026 season. After seven rounds of matches with all sides playing each other once, the league has been split into a top four and bottom four, with all points carried forward.
The top-placed side at the end of the six remaining rounds will secure a direct place in the Grand Final, with second and third place teams competing in a play-off for the other spot. Wigan will face St Helens, Leeds Rhinos and York Valkyrie twice each over the coming six weekends.
