Wigan Warriors' academy squad claimed the 2024 Academy Grand Final with a 15-12 victory over St. Helens at The Totally Wicked Stadium. The win ended St. Helens' bid for a third consecutive title and marked Wigan's first academy championship since 2019.
Jack Farrimond was the standout performer for Wigan, kicking three goals and a crucial 40-metre drop goal on the stroke of half-time to edge the Warriors ahead 7-6. Jack Purtill and Noah Hodkinson scored Wigan's tries as the team held off a late St. Helens comeback. Lukas Mason made a crucial defensive play in the final seconds to deny Owen Dagnall and seal the championship.
Academy Players Step Up to Senior Level
Four academy Grand Final participants have been named in Wigan's squad for the senior Betfred Super League derby against St. Helens on Friday night at The Brick Community Stadium. The squad includes Taylor Kerr, Noah Hodkinson, Austin Daniel and Shea O'Connor. St. Helens have included six academy Grand Final participants in their travelling side for the fixture.
