Wigan Council has launched a public consultation on proposals for a new link road connecting Wigan and Hindley. The scheme forms part of a long-standing plan to deliver an east-west road across the borough.
The link road would run between the A49 Westwood Way in the west and the A577 Manchester Road and A58 Liverpool Road in the east. According to the council, the project aims to reduce traffic congestion in Hindley, Ince, Scholes and Wigan town centre, as well as reducing journey times through the area.
Council's vision for the scheme
Councillor Paul Kenny, portfolio holder for planning, environmental services, and transport, said the link road "has the potential to be one of the most significant transport investments in our borough for generations, helping to improve journey times, reduce congestion, and support opportunities for sustainable growth."
Next steps
Residents, businesses, and stakeholders are invited to take part in the consultation. Those wishing to have their say should contact Wigan Council directly for details of how to respond.
