Wigan Warriors Wheelchair defeated Hull FC Wheelchair 58-24 at Liverpool John Moores University, extending their winning streak to eight games.
The hosts started with immediate intent. Heggie scored within two minutes close to the line and converted his own try. Chris Greenhalgh then crossed in the right corner after combining with Adam Rigby, though Heggie missed the conversion to leave the score at 10-0.
Hull responded when Devon Smith scored in the left corner, with Josh Edwards adding the conversion to make it 10-6. Wigan brought in Mark Williams for the fixture, and he quickly added a try set up by a Heggie pass around the back of the defender.
Heggie's dominant display
Heggie scored again after attacking the line with pace and sidestepping defenders to extend Wigan's lead to 22-6. Adam Rigby added another try down the left touchline, showing his pace to outstrip opposition defenders.
Hull's Devon Smith scored a second try, with Edwards reversing play to keep his team in contact at 28-12. Matt Turner came off the bench and immediately scored, arriving at pace onto a Heggie pass.
Wigan went into half-time leading 46-12. Heggie scored twice more before the break — once following a deep Greenhalgh kick that he chased down, and again from a Turner pass. Heggie converted both to establish the commanding advantage.
Second-half dominance
Smith completed a hat-trick early in the second half following slick handling and an Edwards pass, making it 46-18. Turner and Rigby each scored further tries for Wigan, with Heggie converting both to make it 58-18 with 30 minutes remaining.
Josh Edwards scored for Hull from an interception, charging away from his own 8-metre line, but this proved their final score of the match. Turner scored three tries in succession to seal the victory — the first from Heggie, with the next two set up by Greenhalgh's offloads and kicks.
