Wigan Warriors will replace their principal partner's logo with the name 'Billy' on their shirts for Thursday evening's match against Hull KR, in a tribute to Sir Billy Boston.
The club will wear their traditional Cherry & White strip — colours worn many times by the legendary Sir Billy Boston during his playing career — with the honour taking centre stage on the front of the shirt.
Principal Partner Supports Tribute
Tote, the Warriors' principal partner, has temporarily stepped back to allow the tribute to take place. Natalie Bradford, Head of Marketing at Tote, said: "Sir Billy Boston means so much to Wigan Warriors, the town and the wider game of Rugby League. When the opportunity arose to honour him in this way, there was no hesitation from us. We have always wanted our partnership with Wigan to be about more than having our name on a shirt, and on Thursday night that shirt should belong to Billy. We're incredibly proud to play a small part in helping the Club, its players and supporters pay tribute to a true legend."
Celebrating a Legacy
Rebecca Webb, Head of Partnerships at Wigan Warriors, added: "Sir Billy Boston is a true Wigan Warriors legend, but more importantly, he was a gentleman who touched the lives of so many people, both on and off the field. It feels incredibly fitting that, on Thursday, his name will take pride of place on the front of the Cherry & White as we celebrate his life and the incredible legacy he leaves behind."
Webb also thanked Tote for supporting the club in making the tribute possible, and noted the gesture will be particularly meaningful for Sir Billy Boston's family and everyone connected to Wigan Warriors.
