Wigan Athletic midfielder Charlie Gray has praised the Latics' response and performance after the club picked up a point at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
The 20-year-old, on loan from Manchester City, was part of a disciplined Wigan side that produced a much-improved display. The Latics secured their first clean sheet of the 2026/27 Sky Bet League One campaign while creating opportunities against one of the division's early pace-setters.
Response After Stockport Defeat
Gray highlighted the positive mindset within the group heading into the fixture. Wigan were determined to respond following last weekend's heavy defeat to Stockport County.
The midfielder felt Wigan had done enough to take all three points from South Yorkshire but was pleased with the way the team performed against Sheffield Wednesday, believing there was plenty to build on from the display as the Latics look to turn strong performances into points.
Gray's Assessment
"It's always a great place to come, and the lads and I were really excited to come here and show what we can do," Gray told Latics TV. "We came here with a good attitude, and I know we had a poor result last weekend, but that didn't stop us from thinking we could come here and win."
"I think we performed great, and we couldn't quite get the three points, but coming here and getting one point away from home is still a great result. It's a big thing getting clean sheets, but we just needed to get one goal over the line, and we could have come away with more, but overall, we're delighted."
