Wigan Athletic have secured Manchester City midfielder Charlie Gray on a season-long loan for the 2026/27 campaign. The 20-year-old joins head coach Gary Caldwell's squad to gain regular first-team football at the Brick Community Stadium.
Gray's Manchester City Background
Gray progressed through Manchester City's Academy from Under-9 level and developed through the club's age groups. He enjoyed a successful 2023/24 season with City's Under-18s, helping the side secure the Premier League North title and the FA Youth Cup.
The midfielder stepped up to the Elite Development Squad and played a key role as City won consecutive Premier League 2 titles. He was named the EDS Players' Player of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign.
Gray made his senior debut in December 2025, coming off the bench during City's 2-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over Brentford. He went on to make 20 appearances across all competitions during the 2025/26 season.
His experience also includes UEFA Youth League football, where he scored a free-kick against Real Madrid in a 4-0 win.
Gray on His Move to Wigan
Speaking after his arrival, Gray said: "I'm really happy to be here and excited to be on my first loan and come to such a big club like Wigan with such an experienced Head Coach. The playing style suits how I like to play, so I'm really excited.
"I think it's really important when you get to the age that I am now to get out and get some men's football under your belt. It's a completely different game to what U21s football is, and I can't wait to get started."
